TransRockies Stages 3 & 4

I only have a short moment, so I want to share with you the past 2 days.

Stage 3 – The stage started out with a parade around town and then hopped onto a dirt road for 40k. It was so cool to sit in pack with the leaders for a bit. Just after check point 2, I snapped my derailuer clean off. Boobar did a quick fix on it and I was set up with a single speed for the rest of the day. We then hopped onto the hike-a-bike section. This was near 4k of climbing up over the Continental divide. We pushed on and kept bringing guys back. Ripping up the wicked gnarly decent, we pedaled like crazy (Matt at a normal cadence, me at about 110) to the finish line and came in 2nd on the day! Holy cow! That moved us up to 4th overall. Talk about excited!!

Stage 4 – Though we didn’t have the legs that we did the day before, we recovered from a bad start and again started picking guys off. With mechanicals and flats everywhere on the course, we again moved up to 2nd place. Spectacular views and breathe taking scenery, helped to keep our minds off the fatigue in our legs. But those legs still had some juice and with more that 50 mounts and remounts over MASSIVE mud puddles, we biked/ran our way to another 2nd place finish! We anxiously waited for our competition to come in and see where we ended up in the GC. As the clock ticked away, we moved up to 3rd overall! Holy cow x2!!!!

Now off to clean the bike, fix ‘er up, get some food and do it all over again tomorrow!
